The Disabled Pets Project was created to raise awareness, educate, advocate, and normalize disabilities in pets. DisabledPets.org is an informative resource and support network for veterinarians, pet parents, and rescuers who are caring for disabled dogs, cats, and other pets.

The Disabled Pets Project was inspired by my deaf blind dogs, Piglet and Georgie, to raise awareness for pets who are disabled. Through my social media platforms, I’ve had the opportunity to become part of a very large network of compassionate pet parents, rescuers, and veterinarians who care for disabled dogs, cats, and other pets. There is a growing movement to raise awareness for pets who are disabled through online support groups, new innovative supplies, and inspiring content that highlights the amazing quality of life many disabled pets have as well as the positive impact they have in their communities.

Some disabled pets have complicated medical and physical conditions that require extensive veterinary care. In many cases, pet parents’ experiences with local veterinarians, and the general community, have been less than optimal. It seems that the quality of life of some disabled pets is quite controversial.

Rescuers have also run into issues with scams and animal abuse within the rescue world. My hope is for The Disabled Pets Project to bring vets, pet parents, and rescuers together to share info and experiences with the goal of promoting optimal cooperative compassionate care for disabled pets.

The Disabled Pets Rescue Network is designed to bring reputable rescue organizations together, providing support and a safe space for rescuers to network with each other to share ideas and information, possibly transfer pets, and help make decisions about fostering and adoption that optimize the outcomes for their animals.

DisabledPets.org is a central comprehensive hub for educational material, listings of support groups, supplies, instructional and informative videos, and zoom discussion groups and webinars. The Disabled Pets Project and website, disabledpets.org, are sponsored by Piglet International Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was originally created to support the Piglet Mindset Educational Program and Piglet’s Rescue Fund. The Disabled Pets Project is an extension of our efforts to advocate and fundraise for rescue organizations that focus on disabled pets. Donations to The Disabled Pets Project directly benefit disabled pets cared for by rescue organizations that have joined our Rescue Network.

I hope you’ll join our Facebook group The Disabled Pets Community and follow our Instagram account @disabledpetsproject for some fun, informative, and meaningful content, support, and friendship.

Looking forward to our being part of our new growing Disabled Pets Community.

Sincerely,
Melissa
